Lighting
Gardening indoor plants require a moderate lighting. You can employ natural lighting or electrical lighting. Lighting depends on the requirement of the variety of the pant you have in your room. A plant with darker leaves demands less light as compared to the plant with lighter leaves. Installing a skylight is very fruitful option as it gives advantage of getting lighting directly from the sun.
Following plants are suitable for indoor gardening:
- Cyclamens
- Boston ferns
- Creeping Fig
- African violet
- Philodendrons
Watering
Indoor gardening plants are usually kept in flower pots of various sizes. They have limited capacity of containing water. Generally people forget this fact and over water their plants. The excess water causes rotting of the plant roots. Research the breed of plant you have. Each plant demands different amount of water. Plants dry out faster in the pot as compared to the outdoor gardening. They need frequent watering. Sometimes small plants can be watered once in a day but big ones must be sprinkled twice a day regularly. Remember that it is not the amount of water you put on a plant that counts but the number of plants you water the plant.

Potting
Select a high quality and good looking pot for your plant. It should be large enough to make room for and accommodate the roots. Clean the pot thoroughly before placing your plant in it. This will decrease chances of infection and ensure healthy growth of the plant. You have to exercise caution in mixing the soil with fertilizer and packing it in the pot. The soil should be lightly packed. Heavy packing of soil does not allow proper growth of roots.
Humidity
Humidity is a major issue in setting up an indoor garden. Moisture plays a big impact on the growth of a plant. Each plant demands a different set of moisture level. Clean the leaves of plant on regular basis. You can also sprinkle water in morning and evening for much needed moisture. Be careful not to bruise the leaves when you clean them.
Fertilization
Soil is the most important aspect of growing gardening plants indoors. Use only top grade
potting soil with an organic fertilizer mixed in. Fertilizing requirement depends on the type of plant. If you are providing your indoor garden right quantity of lighting, water and humidity, fertilization required would be less.
